positive–
very sweet
good with kids
easy to care for
negative–
luxating patellas
allergies
The neurological ataxia that the other lady was talking about is a genetic issue that has also affected Chinese Cresteds and Kerry Blues. It is rare– very rare in pugs.

Just as an outside observer… they seem to be real ‘people’ dogs. As in, they don’t like to be left alone. I wouldn’t get a pug if it’s going to be by itself all day. It would pine away. But if you have another dog or a cat or something, that would be good.
Personally, I hate their bug-eyes. But that’s me.

They are very friendly and good with kids. They snore and have a lot of back problems.

My brother in law has a pug (my sister and myself are big German Shepherd Dog People)
But the cons that i know of: They are proned to skin problems, breathing problems, getting eyes scratched, being over weight, patella problems, HD, Something (sorry i forget the name) where the dog will start to haev seizures and then die, i think it was something, like water on their brain or something, sorry i dont remember much just remember reading about it.
Pro’s: They are a great little lap dog, and if you keep them at a good weight they can be active and agile (like my brother inlaws) he cant keep up with all 5 GSDs running and playing, but they do need to pick him up because they are afraid he will pass out because his breathing, not sure if thats them just worrying or not….
I would suggest frinding some pug breeders that test their breeding stock and do something with them, atleast CGCs or showing. Good Luck

If you want a dog who…
-Is small, yet sturdy and blocky, even chunky
-Is round-headed and short-faced, with large expressive -eyes and wrinkled forehead
-Has a soft, short coat
-Can be calm and dignified, and also lively and playful, but is almost always dependable and good-natured with people and other pets
-Seldom gets into real mischief — adults spend much of the day snoring
A Pug may be right for you.
If you don’t want to deal with…
-Stubbornness (mind of his own)
-Snorting, snuffling, wheezing, snoring
-Gassiness (flatulence)
-Slowness to housebreak
-Constant heavy shedding
-A multitude of serious health problems
A Pug might not be right for you.

here is a site that i found for you. the pug puppies at the petstore i work at are all good with kids. They are good with children but don’t seem to know that they are a small dog. Consequently, they may encourage children to play more energetic than the Pug expects.
there is also a breed called a pugle. that is half pug and have beagle. they are an awesome family dog, and they have the best qualities of the two seperate dogs.

Positive: They are very cute! You can pick them up and lay them in your lap. I highly suggest to get a pug above all other dogs!
Negative: They smush their face against the floor a lot! But it’s cute! Also, you can hear them breathing all the time, it sounds like they’re snoring. Depending on the pug you get and how you train it, it could be a little aggressive. But my friends pug is a very nice dog, but he did bite my arm one time when I tried to take food away from it. It could also be easily run over.

I love my pug. He is on my lap as I type. He loves to be close to anyone. He loves kids and thinks that anyone that comes to the house is here to see him. I have not had problems with his medical needs. The biggest problems I have with him is he likes to chew things and he wont let me clip his nails. I have to bring him into the vet. It takes three people to clip his nails even at the vet. He is a great family dog. By the way, his name is D.O.G.
